Major Win for Presidential Accountability and Constitutional Governance
Oklahoma City, OK – June 29, 2026 – The Christian Employers Alliance (CEA), today applauds the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark 6-3 decision in Trump v. Slaughter, which upholds President Donald J. Trump’s authority to remove Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter. The ruling reaffirms core constitutional principles of executive power and democratic accountability.
In this pivotal case, the Supreme Court held that the FTC’s for-cause removal protections are unconstitutional, restoring the President’s ability to ensure that executive branch officials align with the administration’s priorities and the will of the American people.
CEA filed amicus curiae briefs in support of the petitioners at both the stay and merits stages, represented by the legal team at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). CEA argued that insulating agencies like the FTC from presidential oversight sets a dangerous precedent that allows other independent agencies, such as the EEOC, to advance mandates that threaten the religious liberty of Christian employers and pressure faith-based companies to violate their deeply held beliefs.
“Today’s ruling is a victory for the Constitution and for everyday Americans who expect their government to be responsive to elected leaders, not insulated bureaucrats,” said Margaret Iuculano, President of the Christian Employers Alliance. “By affirming the President’s removal authority over agencies like the FTC, the Court has opened the door to greater accountability across the administrative state. This is critical because other agencies, such as the EEOC, have issued mandates that force Christian employers to compromise their faith. We are grateful for the outstanding work of our legal partners at ADF in advancing this important brief.”
The decision in Trump v. Slaughter has broad implications for independent agencies, promoting greater democratic accountability and safeguarding employers from regulatory overreach. CEA remains committed to advocating for policies that protect the freedom of Christian employers to operate their businesses in accordance with their deeply held beliefs.
