Christian Employers Alliance Releases First-of-its-Kind Biblical Business Index
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Christian Employers Alliance (CEA), which engages a network of more than 30,000 faith-based employers across all 50 states – including many of the nation’s largest faith-based organizations – today released the Montana Edition of its Biblical Business Index.
The CEA study uncovered multiple instances of lawmakers representing themselves as “strong conservatives” on the campaign trail, but whose voting records reveal they took the position of abortion expansion and advancement of DEI and politicized LGBTQ+ agendas. Even more shocking, the data shows that nearly half of Montana lawmakers more frequently voted to expand government spending, taxation, and regulation than to limit government and uphold fiscal conservatism.
“Scripture commands us to ‘put off falsehood and speak truthfully’ (Ephesians 4:25),” said Margaret Iuculano, President of CEA. “Truthfulness isn’t optional for a healthy society and it’s essential to a legitimate lawmaking process. Democracy cannot endure when voters are misled about what their elected officials actually do in office. That’s why we launched the Biblical Business Index: to provide a clear, Scripture-grounded standard employers and the public can trust.”
CEA’s analysis found that only a third (51 of the 150 members) of the Montana Legislature voted with the biblically based position at least 80% of the time and earned CEA’s Defender of Biblical Business Award. That share is substantially lower than in other states with strong faith-based communities and limited-government traditions, such as Tennessee, where more than 75% of lawmakers reached the same threshold.
The study was performed in partnership with the Institute for Legislative Analysis and encompassed an extensive review of legislation advanced in the legislature, including analyses of over 12,500 individual votes cast by lawmakers. The research team applied a clearly defined methodology grounded in Scripture, limited government, and longstanding Judeo-Christian social principles.
