Christian Employers Alliance Applauds NC Legislature’s Performance in National Rankings

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Christian Employers Alliance (CEA), which engages a network of more than 30,000 faith-based employers across all 50 states – including many of the nation’s largest faith-based organizations – today released the North Carolina Edition of its Biblical Business Index.

The study found that 97 of the 170 members of the North Carolina General Assembly voted with the biblically based and limited government position at least 80% of the time and received CEA’s Defender of Biblical Business Award. With award recipients comprising nearly 60% of the legislature, North Carolina trails only Tennessee (75%), otherwise outpacing every other state legislature CEA has evaluated to date.

“We applaud Speaker Destin Hall and President Phil Berger for their leadership in fostering a legislative culture that consistently supports biblically based values,” said CEA President Margaret Iuculano. “The Biblical Business Index is the first policy evaluation system grounded in Scripture and designed to help business leaders evaluate states and lawmakers through greater transparency. The data proves North Carolina is open for business and an outstanding place for faith-based employers to locate and invest.”

While some states have enacted policies that harm businesses through higher taxes, weakened public safety, or cumbersome regulations, North Carolina lawmakers acted to strengthen the state’s business climate and support the communities they serve. From a biblical perspective, the legislature also took action to safeguard religious freedom and push back against politicized DEI mandates.

The study encompassed an extensive review of legislation advanced in the North Carolina General Assembly, including the analysis of more than 6,500 individual votes cast by lawmakers. CEA’s research team applied a clearly defined methodology grounded in Scripture, limited government, and longstanding Judeo-Christian social principles.
